Interview with Ohio's Fully Consumed done by Patrick on 9-3-15

Hello
Hope  everyone's  week  is  starting  out  good?  Here  is  a  new  interview  with  Ohio's  death  metal  machine  Fully  Consumed  this  band  has  been  active  for  quite a few  years  and  recently  released their  second  cd   "Incendium"  so  if  anyone  is  into  brutal death  with  some  technical and  very  well executed  music  should  defintly  give  this  band  a chance.
Regards
Patrick

Interview   with  Fully  Consumed   done  by    Patrick

1.Hello  how  is  the  summer  treating  you? When  did  you  all meet  each  other? What  gave  you  the  idea  to  form   Fully  Consumed  ?How  did  you  all choose  the   Fully  Consumed.

Hello, Jeff here.  Greetings from Ohio!  Summer is always a busy time, but we are enjoying it.  Fully Consumed originated as a recording project for myself.  My original plan was to write, record and release music on my own.  My good friend Mike Burns introduced me to Jesse Barrowcliff and we started working on the project together.  From there it evolved into a band.  Jesse brought in Robert Clark, who he'd known for years.  Matt joined the group soon after and that's how we rolled for about 10 years.  Then, in 2013 my long time friend and amazing guitarist Dan Gates came on board.  The name sorta came out of my mind-set I had at the start of the project.  I had played bass for 15+ years and decided to play guitar.  I knew it would take a serious effort to make the switch, and sound convincing.  So I immersed myself in it.  For months I dedicated ALL my free time to playing guitar.  I was fully consumed by it.  When it was time to come up with a band name I threw it out there and the guys liked it.  Plus we all agreed we did not want any sort of typical, gore, death metal name.

2.What  is  the   current  line-up Fully  Consumed   ? The  band  formed  in  2003  how  would  you  say  the  bands  music  has  changed  over  the   years?

Jesse Barrowcliff on bass.  Robert Clark on vocals.  Matt Behner on Drums.  Dan Gates on guitar.  Jeff Shepler on guitar and vocals.  I don't think our music has changed a whole lot over the years.  We have refined our approach slightly and  we've gotten better at playing it.  The original concept was to push ourselves, musically, physically, and creatively.  And that is what we are still doing.

3.Fully  Consumed   has  just  released  their  second  cd  titled   "Incendium"   how  long  did  it  take  to  write  and  record the  songs  for  this  release?Does  the   whole  band  work  on  writing  the  music  or  does one  member  usually  write  everything?

The entire process took years.  We are always writing and adjusting our material.  I would much rather take our time and have everyone happy with the end product than rush through the process.  I write most all the music.  We are riff-centric.  I usually have a collection of riffs I throw at the guys. Then, the actual arrangements are a group effort.

4.Who   usually  writes  the  lyrics  for  the  band. What  are  some  subjects/topics  you   all  write  about?

In the beginning, I had lyrics for several songs.  They ended up on the first release.  Since then, Robert has handled most all the lyrics.  The topics vary, but they almost always boil down to the futility of the human condition. Our self-destructive nature provides endless inspiration.

5.i  Know   Fully  Consumed   has  played  some  shows  this  summer  for the  new  release. Are their  any  upcoming  shows  or  small  tours  this  fall? If  yes  where  are some  places  the  band  will  be  playing?

Unfortunately, we all have commitments that make touring impossible, at this point.  We are focusing out efforts on getting on, and setting up good shows.  We do little weekend trips with a Friday, Saturday combination as often as we can. We are confirmed for the Colorado Gutfest in 2016 and are trying to get on other big fests.

6.Who   have been  some  band  you   have  shared  the  stage  with this  summer? What   have  been  some  of  your   most  memorable  shows  to  date?

Two of the best bands we've played with recently are Corpse Hoarder and Post Mortal Possession.  We did a Friday in Pittsburgh and Saturday in Kent with those guys, it was amazing!  As far as memorable shows, we have played with Origin several times and are looking forward to playing with them again on October 4. Aside from the fact that they are one of my all time favorite bands, the crowd is always large and receptive to what we do.

7.Besides  the  "Incendium"  cd   does   Fully  Consumed   have  any  other  Merchandise   available  for  the  readers  to  buy? Where  can  the  fans  buy  your  band  Merchandise?

We have hoodies, multiple shirt designs and still have copies of our debut CD available at Artconsumed.bigcartel.com.  We also have merch available at Irongates.bigcartel.com.

8.Fully  Consumed   comes  out  of   Ohio's  death  metal  scene I  know  in  the  mid  nineties  Ohio  had  one  of  the  best  Death metal and  grind  scenes  in the  world  what  is  your   opinion  of  Ohio's  death metal  scene?

We are very proud to be part of the Ohio scene!  It's always been very deep with talented bands.  There are great new and old bands alike.  There are also many venues that are receptive to metal in our area.  We go to other areas and you can only play in one or two bars.  We have at least 10 venues, in the Akron/Kent area alone where you can go see a deathmetal show!  And then you add all the venues in Cleveland... It makes for vibrant scene!

9.Who  are  your  all-time  favorite  bands  coming  out  of  Ohio? Are  their  any  new  bands  you   feel  the  readers   should  watch  out for?

There are many choose from, some have been around a  long time like Drogheda, Embalmer and Blood Coven.  And other more recent like, Necrotic Disgorgement and Forged in Gore.  Once Flesh is an amazing young group that you should certainly check out.

11.In your opinion what  is  the  best  and  worst  thing  about  the   underground  scene  today? And  what  does the  term  "underground   metal  mean   to  you?

There are lots of great bands out there that are getting great sounds.  But underground is a weird name for the scene at this point.  While it is true that it is not mainstream, anyone in the world can click and get it, instantly.  It was originally called the underground in part because of it's inaccessibility. We used to trade tapes through the mail. In the end though, I say what's in a name.  It's all about the music.

12.Thank  you    for   taking  the  time  to  fill  out  this  interview do  you   have  any  final  words  for  the   readers?

Thanks for your interest in Fully Consumed!! Stay sick and support METAL
