Interview  with   Hordak    done  by   Patrick

1.Hello  when  did you  all  first   meet  each  other? Was  it   long  before   you  formed  the  band  Hordak?  How  did  you  all  choose the  name  Hordak  for the  band name?

Hello there! Here´s Autumn War from Hordak. Winter and me met long before forming Hordak, back in our days of school, so we know each other since we were eight years old more or less. Years later, in 2002, we founded Hordak, when we were seventeen, as a way to explore and develop our musical inquietudes.
Not long after we founded Hordak I met A. Mansilla, for he had a death metal band called Last Deception, together with L. Mansilla and J. Sierra and they needed a guitar player. Few years later they joint Hordak, for we started playing alive. The rest is history.
We chose the name Hordak becaused we liked the name and reminded us of our childhood. Hordak is also the basque for “Hordes”, which is simply amazing.

2.What   is  the  current  line-up  for  the  band?

The current line-up is formed by:

Autumn War – Vocals, guitars Winter War – Guitars -studio-
A. Mansilla – Guitars
L. Mansilla – Bass guitars
J. Sierra – Drums

We would like to mention that J. Sierra and A. Mansilla are in charge of the recording, mixing and mastering of the albums as sound engineers. So far , they are responsible for “Under The Sign Of The Wilderness” and “Padre”.

3.   Hordak    is  getting  ready  to  release  their  fourth  cd to date  "Padre"   how  long  did  it  take  the  band  to  write  and record  the  music  for this  release?

Concerning the writing, it couldn´t be said how long did exactly take, because there are always some ideas coming and and going, here and there, and sometimes you bring a riff  but it doesn´t work until much later or on the contrary you start writing a song and it´s over by the same day you started with it…Concerning the recording, mixing and mastering, it was a whole different thing because due to our jobs and different personal situations, we recorded during the spring and left the rest for the early autumn…so, about three months I guess for the whole thing.

4.Who  usually  writes  the  lyrics  for the  band what  are  some topics and  subjects the band  writes  about?

It is me, Autumn war, who usually writes the lyrics. The topics I like the most are nature, the Spanish Celtiberian heritage, the cycle of life and death or the eternal turn of the wheel to mention a few. It depends on what music brings to my imagination I write about this or about that. For example, the new album, “Padre”, which is the Spanish for “father”, is dedicated to the sun and every lyric on the album is related to the sun one way or another. The lyric “Father sun – Father Dragon” was written by Lavin Uruksoth from the Cantabrian Pagan Metal band Crystalmoors. He is a good friend of the band and a fantastic singer. He also recorded the vocals for that track and we think that the final result is killer.

5.As  mentioned Padre  is  Hordak's  fourth  release  how  do you  feel  Hordak's  music  has  changed and evolved  over the  years?

It has evolved naturally to a more mature sound and a more elaborated music but the essence is all the same. I guess it is the same with us, as the time passes by, we change and grow up, but in many ways or in the essence, we are the same so, this fact influences the music you create.

6.Has   Hordak  ever   made  a  video  for  any  of their  songs? If  yes  how  did you  like the  experience? How  long  did  it  take the  band  to  shoot the  video?

There is an official videoclip of the song “Spreading the firewings”. The video is a compilation of images recorded during different shows and mixed up as a classic live/official video. We wanted to show how we perform our music alive with Hordak. It was created between Hordak and Nuria Burgos and you can watch it on the net, for example, youtube. It was also included as a multimedia bonus track on the re-released of our first album “War Has Just Begun” by the Russian label GS productions.

7.Are their  any  plans  to  make  a  video  for  any  of the  songs  off  of  Padre? If you  had the  choice  what  song  would  you   like to  see  a  video  done for?

Nothing for the moment, but we shall see.

8.Does  Hordak  ever  play  live  very  often  or  do you  prefer to  work  in  the  studio? What  have  been  some  of your   most  memorable  shows  to  date?

We like to play live, but the conditions need to be the right ones. Some promoters do excellent jobs but some other not and some people underrate the work you do, the effort you take to prepare a gig and the music you create, there are many things to bear in mind before accepting to play a gig.
Last summer we palyed in Germany for the first time at Barther Open Air festival and was amazing.
Also I remember the show/festival we played back in January of 2007 with Wolfencross, Cyhiriaeth, Foscor and Berserk, for sure, one of our highlights.

9.Are their  any  shows  or  tours  planned  for  2016? If  yes where  are  some  places  the  band  will  be   playing?

We would like to play as many gigs as possible, but there´s nothing booked for this year yet. Anyway, if conditions are ok, we are glad to play anywhere.

10.Hordak   comes   out  of  Spain's   metal  scene  what  is your  opinion  of  Spain's  metal  scene?

I am not 100% into it, but I know that is growing fast lately. As long as it enriches the scene is welcome to me.

11.Who  are  your  all-time  favorite  bands  from  Spain?  Are  their   any  new  bands  you  feel  the  readers  should   watch  out  for?

One of our icons have been Nazgul from Madrid, who together with Berserk, Cyhiriaeth, Crystalmoors, Elffor, Numen, Foscor, Wolferncross and some others, where the pioneers of what could be called the first wave of “Celtiberian Pagan Metal”.
We also like many different kinds of music and Spain has very good bands and musicians who we like, not necessarily into metal scene.

12.Besides  Hordak   are  any  of the  members  currently  working  with  other  bands?

Yes, all of us except Winter are involved in a classic Death Metal band called “Last Deception” since 2002. At this moment things are kind of on hold with the band, but we will for sure return.
We recorded a couple of tracks for the third album of the worldwide pagan/folk project called Folkearth some years ago.
A. Mansilla plays bass guitars in a Black Metal band from Madrid called “Frozen Dawn”…A. Mansilla and L . Mansilla play in a band called Gotteron, which musically speaking combines a lot of different musical styles…and I think that´s all

13.Besides  the  new  cd  "Padre"  does the  band  have  any  of their  other releases or  merchandise  available  for the  readers? If   yes  where  can  the  fans  but  it  from?

There are currently available our third album “Under the sign of the wilderness”, a few copies of our first album´s re-release “War has just begun” as well as t-shirts. If anyone should be interested, can get in touch through our e-mail paganbonfires@gmail.com or browse our website www.paganhordak.net
Our merch is also available via Casus Belli Musica, our current label.

14.Thank  you  for taking the  time  to  fill  this   interview  out.Do  you  have  any  final  comments  for the readers?

My pleasure! Thanks very much for your interest and support and thanks to anyone who take the time and interest to read this interview. We are Hordak and we play Celtiberian Pagan Metal. Cheers!

Interview  with    Wargrinder  done  by   Patrick

1.Hails   how  is  2016  starting  out  for  you? You  formed   Wargrinder  in 2000  what  gave you  the  idea to  form the  band?

2016 will be a great year for Wargrinder. The debut The Seal of Genocide just came out on vinyl via Fistbang Recs. The 2nd full length
will be out on tape in a few months or so via Wohrt Recs and then on CD via Nykta Recs this summer. It is titled 'In Suicidal Triumph'.
And next month I'm recording the 3rd full length which is cheduled for 2017. Well the band started off as Shoa in 1999 and then within a year
or so it changed to Wargrinder. I just wanted to create the music that I love inspired by metal bands that I loved. Bass was my first string  instrument and that was because I just loved the heavy distorted sound of Lemmy, Cronos, Angelripper and Helmkamp.

2.How  did you  decide  on the  name  for the  band?  How  do you  feel    Wargrinder's   music   has  changed  over the  years?

I wanted somthing with War in it since the lyrical theme was war and hate from the start. The first demo was composed still under the name Shoa, then
the Doom Messiah came out from Warhammer and that was it. Don't know how many times or how loud I've played that album.
That's a good question. The first material had some slow parts in it since at the time I was listening to Asphyx so much. Last on on Earth is a grand
album and I thought the slow parts blended in nicely with the fast parts. And then the material progressed from the 3 demos to the debut which in its
most part was composed about 12 years ago. Imagine that most of the lyrics where written during my army service in 2003-04. The debut still has those
slow parts but they had already started to diminish. I think the debut is the perfect bridge between the demos and Storming Armored Wolves since there are
tracks that were written right after the 3rd demo and there are tracks that were slowly pieced together from 2008 to 2010. And since I play everything since 2005,
I am able to pick up the speed a bit. And today the material is furious death/black metal. Personally I find it a lot harder to play the guitars than the drums
and I know that the songs are not technical but their fast and constant shredding so...

3. Wargrinder   recently  released  a  split  7inch  with  Hate Manifesto  are  there  any  copies  left? Where  can  the  fans  buy  it  from?

The split 7" was released by Fistbang records and it can be purchased via the label's website. Yes it's still available it came out around 3 months ago.

4.Besides  the  split  7inch  I  know you  are  working  on  new  music  for your  second  full-length. How   many  songs  are you  planning  on  having  on the  new release?
Will  it  be  released  on  cd  or Lp  or  cassette?

'In Suicidal Triumph' has been recorded and mastered since April of 2014. The songs were composed in January of 2011. It has 9 tracks. It will be released on tape by Wohrt Records
in a few months and on CD by Nykta Records this summer. No plans for vinyl yet but I'm certain that it will eventually happen. Expect nothing but fast bone crushing death/black metal.
And some of my fastest blast beats ever. The compositions are very powerful. I'm very proud of this one. Every single riff is a ripping blade.

5.Does   Wargrinder   have  any  other releases  or  merchandise  available  for  the  readers? If   yes where   can  the  fans  buy  it  from?

Regimental Recs released the 3 demos in a compilation cd titled 'Erased Seeds of Ignorance'. Its still available. Been trying to get some fucking
shirts made for years now but its very complicated from up here. Nythra Productions from Greece will release The Seal of Genocide shirts soon.

6.I  believe  Wargrinder   is  a  one man  band  have you   always  worked   alone  or   would you   like to  find  some  new  members  to  make  Wargrinder  a  full line up?

Yes Wargrinder is my personal project. I had a guitarist (Impious Sodomiser of the Virgin Mary) and a drummer (Rotten Pulverized Head) back in the 3 demos but I've
played everything ever since. I don't want people interfering with my vision. But for live shows and if it ever happens, yes I do have some old friends that agreed   to help on guitars, bass and vocals.

7.If you   had  the  chance to  work  with  any  musicians{past  or  present}   who  would  you   like to  work  with?

Cronos from VENOM. I'd love to jam with him. He's my abolute metal hero. Also Rangel Arroyo from Abhorrence (Brazil), the mighty Exequy from the States. That CD blew me away.
Get to think about it there are dozens of people I'd like to work with. And I hope that Gene will someday come up with new material for Apocalypse Command. We got some unfinished business.

8.What   does  extreme metal  mean to you?

Everything. Joy, anger, hate. I've taken this music through so many filters that I don't need special moments for it. Sure it's intense but so is my lifestyle. And my beliefs
as well. I practice what I preach. Therefore I listen to it every chance I get. Extreme metal (and metal in general) is my fucking life. I buy it, I trade it and support   it always.

9.Wargrinder  comes   out  of  the Greek  extreme metal  underground. What  is your   opinion   of  Greece's   extreme  metal  scene?

We have a very big scene and I like that a lot. Greeks are very passionate people and that shows in our music as well. That been said, we need to start supporting each other
more and stop acting like fucking rock stars. I've played with so many bands and have seen some really fucked up things happen. Too much gossip man. The way I see it is :
stop caring about what other bands are doing and focus on writing some fucking music. If you wanna act tough, show the scene what you are through music. If you wanna gossip
go on TV and be a famous gossiper. I never understood it. I'm sure you didnt know this but when I released the 1st Wargrinder demo I didnt give it to Greeks aside from
some close friends. Then I traded with Iapetos from Unholy distro and it was him that originally introduced Wargrinder to the Greek scene. It's not just Greece mind you, there
are cunts everywhere in the world. But I'm speaking out of personal experience. I play music because I love the MUSIC. And nothing more. Image, presentation, make up and scary
interviews can stay away from me. I play in fucking Wargrinder I got nothing to do with small minded worms. Or IGNORANT worms if you will.

10.Who  are  your  all-time  favorite  Greek metal  bands? Are their  any  new  bands  from  Greece  that you  feel  the  readers   should   check  out  soon?

There are some fantastic bands from Greece. And to name a few :  Naer Mataron, Hate Manifesto, Wargoat (Goat Kataklysm), Diabolical Principles, Mortuus Caelum, War Possession,
Deyteronomy, Nergal, Necromantia, The Psalm, Swamp, Human Serpent, Mass Infection, Progress of Inhumanity, Birth Through Gore, Respawn the Plague, Burial Hordes, Birth of Depravity,
the legends Unholy Archangel, Resurgency, Soulskinner, Nadiwrath, Divine Blasphemy, Ithaqua, Legion of Doom, Caedes Cruenta, Lykaionas, ChaosBaphomet, Varathron, Cease of Breeding, The Shadow Order,
man there are many more I will never stop typing... Also check out Wargrinder or go fucking kill yourself.

11.Besides  Wargrinder   I  recently read  that  you  are  now  working  with  Hate Manifesto   when  did you  join  this  band?  Besides    Hate Manifesto are  you  currently  working  with  any  other  bands  or  projects?

I joined Hate Manifesto some months ago to record drums for their debut album. I've jammed with them before though, around 15 years ago. Just wait till the debut comes out. We will
overcome I can promise you that. Well there are always proposals and due to lack of time I keep rejecting people man, but there are a few bands I'm planning on drumming for and it all
will materialize end of 2016 and 2017

12.Thank  you  for  taking the  time  to  fill this   interview   out  do you  have  any  final  comments  for the  readers?

Support the underground, the extreme metal movement. Always push forward. Live proud and to the fullest so you'll die a warrior not a fucking coward.
Achieve or die trying. In Suicidal Triumph..

Interview   with   Hate Manifesto   done  by    Patrick

1.Hails   when  did you  all  get  the   idea  to  form   Hate Manifesto ?

Hate Manifesto were formed in 1997 under the name of Carpathian Lords by our previous vocalist Warfrost Armageddon and me.Later on that year our bass player(and former bass player of kawir)I.AM.GOD. joined us as  a permanent member and with that line up we did pretty much everything as a band until 2003 that we put the whole thing on ice.In 2003 just before we decided to freeze the band we changed the name to Hate Manifesto. It was something that we had in mind for many years because obviously our previous name didn't represent us at all anymore neither it blended with our musical style.Hate manifesto represents anything we stand for personally and music wise.

2.What  is  the  current  line-up  for   Hate Manifesto ?For  the  readers   who  have   never  heard  Hate Manifesto's   music  how  would  you  best  describe  it?

The current line up is:
W.S.P.(guitars+vocals)
I.AM.GOD.(bass)
WARHEAD(battery)

3.Hate Manifesto   recently  released  a  split  7inch  with  Wargrinder  how  long  did  it  take  you all to  write  and record  the song for  this  split  release?

The track was composed in 2 weeks if i can recall properly and the whole procedure lasted about a month+(recordings, mix, mastering etc)

4.Has  the  band  started  writing  new  music  for the  next  release? Will  it  be  a  E.P  or  are  you  trying to  do  a  full  length  this  time?

We finished the composing of our full length before 10 days actually and we sent it to our drummer warhead so he can learn it before the recordings.Mid of february we're starting the recordings for the drums and from there slowly step by step we'll finish the whole album. It will be out around september i hope and it will be absolutely a step ahead for us from every aspect.

5.Will  the  band  self-release  the  next  recording  or  will you  all  work  with  a  label? Any  idea  which  label  you  will  be  working  with?

Nope not at all.Our full length will be out from fistbang records again the same label that released our split with wargrinder so stay tuned.

6.Does  the  whole  band  work  on  writing  the  music   or  does  one  member   usually  write  everything?

From 2000 and after  i'm handling the music by my self but  for no other reason beside the fact that we're 100% satisfied with what i'm composing and that helps the band having a specific musical identity that never changes.
Of course when it's necessary I.AM.GOD. will contribute with ideas especially in the arrangements but overall there's no restrictions to no one in the band.Everyone contributes actively.

7.Who   usually  writes  the   lyrics  for  the  songs? What  are  some  subjects  the  band  writes  about?

I'm writing the lyrics, it's important for me that  i must feel what i'm singing and it's also important that the music fits with the lyrics to be blended as one.We don't want to be out of our concept in any means.Of course as i said above everyone in the band is active so if something interesting will be brought on the table will be used lyric and music wise.
Our concept has to do with war between the ages mostly.Beside that we're speaking about dominance/hate/depopulation/genocide that blend with historical references to war and personal visions of extinction and hate beliefs.

8.Besides  the  split  7inch   with  Wargrinder  does  the  band  have   any  other  merchandise  available  for  the  readers? If  yes  where  can  the  fans  buy  it  from?

Unfortunately no, there's nothing beside our split with wargrinder available from the band.Possibly some t-shirts will be printed but nothing's sure yet.
Follow the band's page  and be updated for everything, our full length will satisfy every potential fan that's for sure.

9.Hate Manifesto   comes  out  of  the  Greek  black/death  metal  scene  what  is your  opinion  of  Greece's   metal  scene?

Well that's a question that requires time to analyze but i'll try to be brief.
Music wise the bands are better that the previous years. Not in the level that i concider a band absolutely dominating or superior but in a good level.Technology helps also bands that are not capable of to sound like monsters or pro's in studio but when they perform live you realize they're a studio built up.For example musicians that supposed to record compose and play but in the studio they can't record a 4/4 or never touched an instrument on a recording session. Also many bands in greece play for the hype and what's popular by the time and not for what they're craving for.But this is a global phenomenon in our music i guess.
Beside that the greek scene is infested with cliques and fake brotherhoods that poison and deteriorate our music. For a little bit of publicity some people can humiliate their selfs easily.Hate manifesto will never be a part of this game neither will do public relations for their own profit so keep a distance from us.We let the slime job for the ones that have a natural talent on it.
We have relations with a handful of people only as friends first and all the rest come after.
We don't support bands we support the attitude of people.Everyone is judged by his actions.
And that's the bottom line.

10.Who  are  some  of your   all-time  favorite  Greek  bands? Are their  any  new  bands you  feel  the  readers  should  watch  out  for  soon?

Definetly i would say early rotting christ, necromantia and varathron. And other bands also but not in the capacity of these 3.We have a unique scene that's for sure but these 3 in their early years overcome everything.
As for other bands i totally support and recommend wargrinder.Absolutely devastating band and so underated. That's the price for not following  the bullshit hype here in greece and not doing public relations.Beside that i can't think any other new band that i'm interested in.Mostly i'm into older bands but you can check out our comrades from wargoat if you're into destructive bestial BM  and lykaionas for black occult worshippers.
Brothers from Vorphalack will return soon will fresh material so stay tuned.
A band that we have endless respect and that will never change is legion of doom for those that don't know them(if they're are any)
And for  those that adore the old school greek BM sound check out caedes cruenta and ithaqua.

11.Are  any  of the  members  of  Hate Manifesto    currently  working  with   any  other  bands?  If  yes   please  tell  the readers  a  little  about  them?

I.AM.GOD. is also a member of Vorphalack and beside that he runs his personal project called DEATH.FOR.YOUR.RACE.
As for me my main band is and will always be Hate manifesto but beside that i'm running a side project called Cult of eibon in the vein of early rotting christ and varathron.A 7'' ep will be out in february by A fine day to die productions for the ones interested.
As for warhead i don't think he's running any other project beside wargrinder.

12.When   not  working  on  new  music  or  band  business  what  do you  enjoy  doing  in your  free  time?

Spending time with my family mostly.
Beside that i hang out with my close friends, watching my favorite football team and read a lot.Mostly history books.

13.What  does  Underground  Metal  mean  to  you?

It's a whole way of life and a way to define things in music but in life also.
I believe it exists inside someone you don't learn about it.
If you're are underground you feel it if you're not you pretend to be one.
The underground is the core of our music but i don't believe there's an actual underground nowdays as it existed back then, not at all actually.

14.Thank  you  for  taking  the  time  to  fill  this  interview  out  do you   have  any  final  comments  for  the  readers?

First of all i would like to thank you for your support and by giving a chance to hate manifesto to be heard.
Stay true to your beliefs and way of life and stop degenerating your existence by weak  pathetic human actions.
For those interested our split 7'' with wargrinder is still available through fistbang records and recently through iron bonehead records also.
